PWHPTC is capable of providing sophisticated poisoning treatment.

The experience and expertise of the multidisciplinary team led by a
consultant physician (clinical pharmacologist and toxicologist) and
adopting a systematised approach will help ensure the quality of
clinical service.

As expected for a specialised poison treatment centre, PWHPTC is
staffed and equipped to provide supportive as well as specific care for
patients with poisoning.

PWHPTC has the facilities to perform gastrointestinal
decontamination.

PWHPTC has the antidotes required for specific treatment of
poisoning in Hong Kong.

PWHPTC has the facilities to perform enhanced elimination of
poisons from the body, using charcoal haemoperfusion and haemodialysis.
- PWHPTC is well supported by various clinical disciplines.

PWHPTC has easy access to various electronic databases on poison
management. It will continue updating the acute care protocols
and expanding its collection of key reference texts and articles.

The Accident & Emergency Department will provide the initial
assessment and treatment of patients with acute poisoning.

The Intensive Care Unit, the High Dependency Unit, the Renal Unit
and the Coronary Care Unit will provide the supportive and specific
care to patients with poisoning, whenever necessary.

PWHPTC will be closely connected with the Hong Kong Poison
Information Centre, Hospital Authority Toxicology Reference Laboratory
and Toxicovigilance Section of the Department of
Health.
